Finding the right caregiver for your loved one

This post is sponsored by Care.com but all opinions are my own.

This past year proved that we can multitask and take on things that we never knew we could, like becoming a teacher to our children during distance learning or being a caregiver to a family member who couldn’t be on their own. In the past year, I have been both a caregiver to my father, full time mom and employee at the same time. It’s a lot to juggle. Now that things are reopening, I was excited to learn that Care.com is a resource for Senior Care in addition to childcare.

Recently, I found myself needing help in both areas. After a year at home with no date nights or vacations alone, my husband and I really needed some time to ourselves. Care.com helped us find a babysitter locally who could help my husband and I get some time away.

If you’ve been following our story you also know that my dad was diagnosed with cancer several months ago and we came home to get him settled into his home and help him with his care. I quickly realized that it would be too much to try and do alone. After searching for options of local senior caregivers near me, I discovered Care.com also offers senior care services. Finding a caregiver for a loved one is such a delicate task so I wanted to make sure we found the right person to help us. We decided we only needed a few hours a day every day of the week so I created a job post and within a few hours we had several candidates, after a week we had over 30. I love that Care.com allows candidates to share background checks and reviews of previous employers. After we narrowed down our search to our top five favorites I set up a call with each of them and then did an in person interview. Ultimately, my dad was most excited about having someone to practice his exercises and make meals for him. A caregiver can also run errands, do housekeeping, check-in on your loved one and bathe them. As I’m now in the position where I am helping take care of my parents and children, I was so happy to find a reliable company like Care.com to help us with all of our needs in the same place.
